than just hot weather - a hot meal! The Hunger Coalition and
Blaine County School District have teamed up once more to bring
the Lunch Connection, a free summer food program to Woodside
Elementary. Children, ages 1 to 18, are welcome to come for
nutritious meals being served beginning Monday, June 8 through
Friday, August 14 from 11-12 p.m.

Leadership Classes provide "Community Service With A
Smile

Leadership Students from Mrs. Clark's class take a minute to
pose for a picture before cooking up a quiche dinner for several
hungry families.
On February 2, 2009, students from Mrs. Clark's Leadership
classes
donned aprons and cooked dinner for over 100 people.
"We served quiche, green salad, French bread and chocolate
cake," smiled Mrs. Clark. All ten of the quiches were gone
in 39 minutes, and the guests enjoyed the meal and felt that the
service and cooking were wonderful. They served 66 guests in
the dining room, 30 take-out meals and a crew of twelve. Mrs.
Clark added, "The crew deserves some major compliments
because they cooked, cleaned and maintained a delightful
attitude of service throughout the event." The students
even said that it was "fun!"
Over the years, The Souper Supper program has provided more than
30,000 meals to anyone who came to St. Charles Catholic Church
parish hall in Hailey on Mondays or Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. The
WRMS Leadership classes volunteer several times a year as a
community service project. They have prepared everything from
spaghetti to "breakfast for dinner."

Students Take Ownership at Conferences
Our
7th grade teachers accepted the challenge as part of the Idaho
Middle School Reform Task Force recommendation to initiate
student-led conferences. The theory behind student-led
conferences is that students take greater ownership in
understanding and being responsible
for
their academic performance. Involving the students in this
process makes a lot more work for our teachers, but has the
added benefit of helping students communicate their strengths
and weaknesses in each class to their parents.
