Wood River Middle School Students and Staff Participate in the Wagon Days Parade

2008-2009 Leadership Classes help out!

The students of the WRMS Leadership Classes, along with their friends and siblings participated in the Wagon Days Parade during Labor Day Weekend.  Thirty students carried the Ketchum Chamber of Commerce sponsor signsPausing for a picture with true Westeners throughout the whole parade route.  "This activity helped our students connect to the community in a great and positive way - and it was fun.  We celebrated with watermelon when the job was completed and had a great and sunny day, " said Leadership Teacher, Jill Clark.

One of our own staff members was in the parade, too!  Mr. Bruce Clark and his wife, Cathy, had four Corgi dogs all hitched up and pulling a wagon of their own.  Not to be outdone, the Clydesdales and Ketchum ore wagons followed.

Mr. Clark shows off his Corgi dogs.

Power Engineers Grant

Power Engineers has once again been generous enough to provide financial assistance to the Technology and Engineering program at WRMS.  The money from this grant will go towards Phase II of the Sustainable Energy Vehicle.  Students are designing an electric vehicle that is powered by two 36-volt battery banks.  The battery banks will be charged by solar panels mounted on the top of the SEV.  Upgrades and additions this year include disc brakes, hub mount motors, acceleration/braking petals, and an improved chassis that was designed from anthropometric data gathered by the Advanced Technology class.  Look for the full story of the Advanced Technology's SEV in the winter issue of Sun Valley Magazine.

Family Technology Night

Over 600 people showed up for the First Annual Technology Family Night held at WRMS.  Tony Leavitt from NASA and Kevin Young from INL presented to parents and children.  After presentations from Leavitt and Young, children and adults participated in interactive hands-on activity booths set up around the gym, cafeteria, and Tech Lab.  From Flight Training to Robotic Rover challenges, there was something for all ages.  There were over 47 parent volunteers that helped make this night a success.  Blaine County Technology Education teachers would like to thank everyone that helped out with this education night.
