Dr. Craig Manning Speaks at Carey

Dr. Manning at Carey SchoolThe Carey Students and Staff enjoyed a day with Dr. Craig Manning on August 22nd.  Dr. Craig Manning is a nationally known Sports Psychologist who played tennis at both the collegiate and pro level; he currently coaches a Division 1 tennis program and has built it into a program that is ranked in the top twenty nationally.  Dr. Manning has experienced the highest level of performance from a player’s perspective, a coach’s perspective, and as a cognitive-behavioral scientist.  In his presentation at Carey School, he spoke about six topics with our students and staff: motivation, anxiety, concentration, confidence, decision making and programming the mind.  This clinic was an exciting opportunity for us to kick off the new school year.  Although Dr. Manning is a sports psychologist, the information he presented applies to so much more than sports, it applies to anything, academics, extra-curricular, college, studies, parenting, anything.

The wind was howling, but it didn't get Coach Cook's beanie!

A special thanks to Dr. Manning for coming to Carey, spending the evening with the football team on top of Queens Crown, and giving us tools to use for the rest of our lives. If you are interested in his information, he has a website www.visualizeone.com

Blue Dominates the First Day at Carey Elementary

Carey Elementary starts off the year all dressed in Blue!  Each child and adult received a tee shirt on the 1st day of school.  The tee shirts have positive messages for us all to remember.  The front of the shirt has a panther graphic on it with the printed words "CAREY CLAWS".  CLAWS stands for "Courage to Learn Achieve Win and Succeed".  On the back of the shirt is printed the words "PANTHER PAWS", "with PAWS standing for "with Positive Attitudes We Succeed"!!!  We have had a great 1st week at Carey Elementary School, and with PAWS and CLAWS to guide us, we are sure to have a wonderful year!

Carey School Welcomes New Staff Members

A very special welcome to our new Pre-School and Kindergarten teacher!!!  Mrs. Amy Backus joins our team from Klamath Falls Oregon where she was teaching special education in 2nd - 6th grade.  She and her husband (Dave) love this area and she is very excited to teach in Carey.  She will be teaching Pre-school from 8:30 - 11:00 and Kindergarten from 12:00 to 3:00.

We would also like to welcome a familiar face as the new elementary secretary, Mrs. Nancy Durtschi.  Along with her family, she has lived in Carey for the past three years.  Nancy is a familiar face as she has been a guest teacher in many classrooms, as well as substituting in the office.  She is also very excited to work with the students and staff at Carey School.

Lynda Pyrah Retires!

June 27th marks a bitter sweet day at Carey School.  It also marks the end of an era.  June 27th is Lynda Pyrah's last day as the secretary at Carey School.  Lynda has been at Carey School for 21 years.  Not only has she been the secretary at Carey School for 21 years, but she has been; the  champion of all students, the  smiling face, the  healing hands, the  confidante, the  heart and soul of Carey School for those 21 years.  Indeed, June 27th is a bitter sweet day at Carey School!

Congratulations on your retirement Lynda.  Let your retirement be all that retirement should be!  You will remain in our hearts forever!!
